About Village Books

Village Books in Fairhaven & Lynden are community-based, independent bookstores located in the Historic Fairhaven district of Bellingham, Washington, where it has been awarded the Tourism Business of the Year by the members of the Convention & Visitors Bureau. Since 1980 we have been Whatcom County, Washington's "Community Bookshop for Browsing."

We carry new, used and bargain books, as well as sell ebooks on our website. The books on our shelves are carefully and personally chosen by Village Books' buyers right here in Bellingham. Years of experience with local customers and knowledge of local interests helps us carefully select the books you love. The books you see on our shelves are not automatically sent by publishers, nor are these titles chosen by someone in some remote office. If you don't see books on a topic of interest to you please let us know. Thanks to you, Village Books is able to continue keeping local readers in mind.
Village Books is a place to meet your friends, talk books, or just while away an hour or two. If you're in the neighborhood come on in for a browse.
Be sure to bookmark this site (a bookmark is appropriate for a bookstore, isn't it?) so that you can visit us again.
We are thrilled to be part of IndieBound, a national organization of independent booksellers started by the American Booksellers Association. Take a moment to visit their website to learn more about this energetic and passionate group of book lovers.

Village Books & Paper Dreams recently opened a location in the newly renovated Waples Mercantile Building on Front Street in Lynden, Washington.  The building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, burned in 2008, and was later purchased by Bellingham architect Jeff McClure and his wife Debra.  The McClures, along with Teri and Matt Treat, formed Forefront Ventures to renovate the building and add a 35-room inn, which the partnership will operate.  The inn and adjacent businesses, including Avenue Bread and Drizzle (both neighboring businesses in Fairhaven), are expected to open in early November.

Village Books & Paper Dreams in Lynden operates in about 3000 square feet, with a combination of books, gifts, and cards.
